July 3 – Electrical distribution transformer and technology products manufacturer Howard Industries is expanding operations across its Mississippi facilities in Simpson, Clark and Jones counties. The project is a $236.95 million investment and will create a total of 450 jobs.

January 2 – Rural Education and Leadership (REAL) Christian Foundation, Inc. presented scholarship money to three local schools serving Simpson County. Genesis One Christian School, Grace Christian School of Mt. Olive and Hope Christian Academy in D’Lo each received $5,000.
January 9 – On Saturday, December 28, 2024 an EF 1 tornado ripped through Mendenhall and Simpson County leaving a wake of destruction. Because of massive power outages several residents, churches, Big Jim’s Meat Market, Rho Iota Zeta and others came together to feed the community and linemen.

The 2025 Mississippi listings in the National Register of Historic Places include Provine Chapel at Mississippi College, the home of a lauded quiltmaker in Jefferson County and five historic districts across the state. In all, 15 properties were listed in the National Register this year.

GULFPORT, Miss. – This New Year, Mississippi Aquarium is celebrating animals that are all about out with the old and in with the new. Mississippi Aquarium guests will be able to get close up to some of the most interesting animals around, ask the animal care crew questions, snap photos, and dive into all the facts about these species as they kick off the new year.

The Mendenhall Mayoral Health Council hosted its second annual Community Christmas Luncheon on December 19, providing a free holiday meal for residents of Mendenhall and surrounding communities.
The event focused on ensuring that individuals and families were able to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner during the holiday season.The luncheon was made possible through the support of local sponsors and community partners.

Members of the Mendenhall Business Women's Club met to wrap gifts for the four families they assisted for Christmas 2025. Amanda Broadhead cannot recall a time when her mother Janella Lee was not a member of the Mendenhall Business Women’s Club. Broadhead joined two years ago and recently several other younger women have joined MBWC, bringing new ideas and talents.
As a result of the organization’s work, four families in need – 20 people – in the Mendenhall area were at the receiving end of the MBWC this Christmas through the club’s new fundraiser – Holiday Magic – held in conjunction with the annual Tour of Homes. The event was well supported by local merchants and residents alike.

The Magee Mayor and Board of Aldermen met on Tuesday, December 16, for their final regular meeting of 2025.
City Attorney Wesla Sullivan was acting secretary as City Clerk Jon Styron was absent.
Mayor Mark Grubbs gave a quick run through on work projects. Well #4 repairs are still awaiting a replacement pump. Maintenance and rehabilitation is underway at the lift station on Highway 49 S.

The intersection on Highway 49 N at the Shell station south of Magee has reopened. Construction is still ongoing but traffic may now exit to the frontage road from the highway in both directions at the Shell station.

MDOT began work in early December on Highway 49N south of Magee. The intersection of Highway 49 and Siloam Road is permanently closed. Traffic exiting Siloam Road must turn right and make a U-turn farther down Highway 49 South. It is part of a larger project that includes placement of a traffic light near the Shell Station on Highway 49, also south of Magee. That intersection is also closed, cutting off access to the frontage road. According to MDOTTraffic Alerts, the project is scheduled for completion in May 2026.

Volunteers placed wreaths throughout Mendenhall City Cemetery and spent time remembering their loved ones.
Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, December 13, was observed at Mendenhall Cemetery with families, friends and volunteers in attendance.
National Wreaths Across America Day is a yearly coordinated wreath-laying effort at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., as well as at cemeteries in all 50 states and abroad.
This is the eighth year that the Mendenhall Cemetery has participated as an official location.

WASHINGTON — The Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service today issued Notice 2026-05 providing guidance on new tax benefits for Health Savings Account participants under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill. These changes expand HSA eligibility, which allows more people to save and to pay for healthcare costs through tax-free HSAs.

The Magee Mayor and Board of Aldermen met Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 3:30 p.m. with the meeting time changed from 5 p.m. in consideration of the annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade at 6 p.m.
Mayor Mark Grubbs and board members allowed three residents to speak during the public comments although they had not completed the forms required 30 minutes prior to the meeting.
