Soul City Church.
Great afternoon at Soul City Church, an inner city Jackson church west of Belhaven. Pastor Scott Fortenberry gave a great sermon on the book of Habakkuk, in which the prophet questions God about violence and injustice in the world. Given the high Jackson murder rate, violence was a relevant topic. There had been a gunfight in the neighborhood just a few days before. Injustice was relevant too. Scott had been dragged out of his car by undercover state capitol police this week in the parking lot of the Dollar General for failing to use his turn signal. The church, a plant by Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton, has opened a neighborhood pool, Splash City, providing summer recreation for hundreds of neighborhood children.
