Belhaven is making it!
Developer David Turner's dream of modern urban living in Belhaven is now a reality. Ginny and I joined our friends Stewart and Kim Speed for beers outside at new brewery Fertile Ground, which has its own water well. It was a beautiful late summer afternoon and it was great to see the place packed. The beer was delicious and on the same block was a wine/drink bar, ice cream shop, donut shop and other cool places. The Speeds have a cool condo just around the corner. Great experience of what Belhaven is becoming!
Bordered by North Street to the west, North Jefferson Street to the east, Carlisle Street to the south and Poplar Boulevard to the north, the Belhaven Town Center pumps new life into two once stagnant blocks.
When finished, the town center will include 13 buildings and represent a $22 million investment in the city, said DAVID TURNER, the owner of DAVID TURNER Companies and the project construction manager and general contractor for the development. Jackson residents Reed Hogan, and his son, Reed Hogan Jr., and Ruffin Lowry are Turner’s partners in the development.
The partners have funded the entire project without any help from the state and any kind of tax incentive.
