Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation:
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) held it’s annual Maintenance Meeting in Starkville the week of April 19th.
Over 200 MDOT employees and 100 vendors, exhibitors and contractors met at the Hump on the Mississippi State University campus, to share information on best practices on maintaining safe state roadways.
“It’s a chance for everybody to get together, get informed on what some of the support agencies and support divisions are doing for our maintenance employees around the state as well as networking together.” - Heath Patterson, State Maintenance Engineer
The maintenance workers attended many seminars, some on how MDOT is integrating unmanned aerial systems and drones into their state highway maintenance program, and others on how to stay safe when using chainsaws to clear storm debris.
“Were just here to make sure they’re dressed correctly with the proper P.P.E., that if an accident does happen they won’t get injured or won’t be injured as bad.” - Tim Chennault, Chainsaw Safety Instructor
This is the first Maintenance Meeting MDOT has held in two years due to the pandemic. The gathering allows MDOT workersn to learn, share ideas and return to their districts, with the latest intel on how to provide safe intermodal transportation networks, that are planned, designed, constructed and maintained in a cost-efficient, environmentally friendly manner.
