The Delta Chinese, History is Lunch lecture
Yesterday at History is Lunch, Emily Erwin Jones of Delta State spoke on the topic of The Delta Chinese. Jones explained how after the Civil War, Chinese men were enticed to come to Mississippi as the planter class was in need of labor. As US politics began to move towards exclusionary policies aimed at the Chinese, the Delta Chinese began moving into the merchant/grocer class as a means of being able to stay in their adopted country. It was an interesting talk. Next week's topic will be on Delta tamales. History is Lunch is held each Wednesday at 12:00 noon at the Two Mississippi Museums.
