Greenwood Cemetery - HH Chalmers
The State Law Library recently received a request for a portrait of Justice H.H. Chalmers (1835-1885) of the Mississippi Supreme Court. While we were unable to locate a portrait (maybe there is one out there??), we were able to provide pictures of the late Justice's grave in Jackson's Greenwood Cemetery. We also provided a picture of the 1823 Mississippi Code that Chalmers once owned. We have this rare book in our special collections at the Library.
Chalmers was born in NC, but his family moved to Mississippi when he was a child. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and studied law in Jackson. He served as State Librarian, Secretary of the Senate, and as a Supreme Court Justice.
