The Rev. Jesse Jackson, the prominent civil rights activist and protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was no stranger to Leflore County as he visited the Delta several times.
Jackson died at his home in Chicago Tuesday. He was 84.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 16, 2026 from 9 a.m. until 11 a,m, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Burial followed in Puckett Cemetery in Puckett, MS. Bro. Mickey Ferguson officiated.
