From left, Hugh Trussell, Scott Carlton, Daniel Trussell, Jay Cooke, Wyatt Emmerich, Shane Kellum, Campbell Cooke and Jay Baker.
Selfie in front of capitol building.
Jeff Good of Bravo fame was this year's champion, defeating finalists Wyatt Emmerich and Daniel Trussell.
Daniel Trussell retrieves a roofed frisbee. It's nice to see this tradition getting handed off to a new generation.
The ledge was too soft to put weight on.
Success!!
Hitting the door is the goal on this one-par hole
Not many people downtown on a Sunday afternoon but those that are don't know what to make of this roving band of frisbee flingers.
Discussing what the next hole will be.
Champion Jeff Good makes a good toss.
Jeff whacked me in the head with his frisbee and I feigned death. I them all going for a minute with my deft fake collapse. Dr Carlton checks me out.
You never know how the authorities are going to react to a bunch of old guys playing frisbee golf downtown. In this case the officer in charge at the capitol building let us pass right on through to the other side. Nice guy! Not all the police were so nice.
Now we're on the steps of our signature hole. From the top of the capitol stairs, throw down to hit the big liberty bell below. A two usual wins this hole.
Weight limit on frisbees is 175 grams for this annual event. This is an illegal disc!
Around a corner, then hit the doors to the old bus station.
Eudora is the object of one hole. The frisbees are soft plastic and don't damage anything.
As we played through the old Jackson high school building, now housing the Mississippi Department of Education, I couldn't help but notice a bunch of parking signs. Lots of administrators.
Jay Cooke telling us what to do. We let him think he's the alpha male.
Back to back to defending champion Shane Kellum got shut out from the finals this year. Ouch! He was a contender to win every nine holes but somehow managed to lose at the last second by a spoiler throw. (Mainly me.)
This big beautiful downtown building, the Landmark building, is now empty. Such a waste.
This is a cool hole. You have to go down the hall and stay within the columns and then hit a post box on the other side.
We encountered a homeless person on this particular hole. He never woke up.
Apparently there's some fine liquor being drunk downtown. This was not us!
You see all sorts of interesting things downtown.
One fun thing about downtown frisbee golf is the chance to see some beautiful buildings downtown. One day perhaps our downtown will come back to life.
Daniel and a mural.
At least a dozen really cool murals downtown. Often on the sides of buildings.
Another fun hole. So many flagpoles, so little time.
Like I said, there's just some weird stuff you see downtown.
As it turned out, we encountered a Zen yoga wellness festival at the art museum downtown. It was quite interesting.
Who would have thought? Italian ice on an October day in downtown Jackson.
Can't argue with that.
Father and son, Jay and Campbell Cooke doing a little jig together. Warms the cockles of my heart.
Ok.
Jeff good knows everybody in Jackson.
Another good hole from the Thalia Mara music hall platform over the fountain and hit the red statue.
There are lots of cool things to look at downtown. In this case, it's a monument for all those who lost their lives in the world wars.
That's Moses at the top of the old County courthouse. It's kind of ironic that the Ten Commandments are in Roman numerals.
A nice water stop. Who doesn't like Hal & Mal's?
Cool murals at Martin's. Lots of Sunday afternoon day drinkers.
This was a gift from the French government to Jackson thanking us for our effort in World War II.
Old train track to nowhere.
If you look carefully, you will see a frisbee stuck on the roof. It's been there for about 5 years.
Losing frisbees is a constant hazard. We can lose them down gutter drains, on roofs, behind gates and and up in trees. We were able to retrieve this one.
Yet another hazard of frisbee golf: Car running over your frisbee. Sure enough this one got run over twice. We had one other frisbee get run over this day. We never know if the driver is intentionally running over the frisbee or if it's an accident.
The Capital Police are everywhere these days downtown which gives us a feeling of safety. In our case, word had gone out over the police radio that a band of crazed frisbee throwers were on the loose. We got accosted by this policeman. However after a little bit of explaining, he was as nice as he could be. Funny how rumors get started. I guess it gets pretty boring being a member of the Capital Police. Downtown is pretty darn dead on the weekends. Your greatest danger is some aging disc hurlers.
Beautiful sycamore tree surrounded by human trash. A perfect example of God's perfection and human sin spoiling it.
Cool downtown bakery. Who would believe it?
City Hall is one of our last holes.
What a perfect place to end. Fertile Ground brewery. This Belhaven brewery is so so cool.
Now we're replenishing all the calories we burned so to be sure as to maintain the fat around our bellies.
Right outside of Fertile Ground was a pizza of food truck that made awesome pizza. I took home two.
Family just hanging out at the Belhaven town center. Of course we knew them.
Beautiful sunset ends the day.
