Penny Aguirre, former zoning director with the City of Magee
Penny Aguirre, former zoning director for the City of Magee, agreed to an interview recently about her termination from that position on December 5, 2025.
Aguirre was only made aware of the decision after receiving a phone call from former Building Inspector Duane Simmons in which he stated that he had just received a call from Mayor Mark Grubbs informing him that he was terminated. In turn Aguirre phoned the mayor and was told that yes, she had been terminated.

Kenneth Patrick Harris, 68, of Magee, MS, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at the Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born Tuesday, October 1, 1957 in Brookhaven, MS.
Kenneth was a simple man who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures like music, and fishing. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Harris; mother, Opal Murphy Harris; and brother, Robert Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Lynn Lucas Harris; son, Trinity Harris (Chelsea); brother, Jeff Harris; two half-brothers and one half-sister.

The AG’s office is requesting less funding for the next fiscal year but wants the Legislature to provide salary increases to help retain and attract staff.
For the second consecutive year, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office has requested less funding than the prior year, asking lawmakers only for an increase in salaries given the loss of attorneys to higher-paying jobs.
