Special Olympics Mississippi recently hosted the 2025 Gold Gala at Duling Hall. The event honored the accomplishments of more than 6,000 athletes across the state who compete with Special Olympics Mississippi.
Donna Sims and Rita Martinson, who both have served on the board for more than 25 years, were honored. The evening also included a live auction, dining and music from The Love Notez.

On July 4, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed into law his One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). It passed by narrow margins in both chambers of Congress.
Part of the OBBBA is a program called Rural Health Transformation (RHT), promising $50B to states approved for distribution of program funds for which Mississippi qualifies. According to www.cms.gov the monies will be allocated over a period of five years, $10B each year from 2026 through 2030. All 50 states received funding this year.

A suspect has been identified and charged in the Jan. 10 robbery of the Walmart gas station in Yazoo City.
Curtis Williams, 23, of Durant was arrested Monday in Durant after Yazoo City police received tips from the public.
The Yazoo City Police Department's Investigator Captain Artis Harris along with Officer Jamie Langston met with Durant and Kosciusko police officers in Durant and arrested Williams without incident.
