The Yazoo County Panthers were crowned the District 3-3A champions last week at Humphreys County after defeating O’Bannon 46-40 in the semifinals and Thomas Edwards 57-41 in the championship game. “This group went from being blown out, to losing close games, to now winning games,” said YCHS head coach Bryce Randall. “This feels like a relief. I got here when these seniors were freshmen and we’ve made slow, steady progress the whole time. I’m just proud of how hard they play, and I appreciate them trusting me through the process.

The outrages keep piling up day after day. On February 6, 2026 at 5:44 in the morning, the Truth Social Account from “Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump” tweeted a 62-second video of former President of the United States Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as hairy, muscular apes, swaying in a jungle to music. I do not know how many overt racists there are in the United States of America. I venture there are not enough to keep either the President or his party in power.

Benton Academy’s sub-par shooting performance in last week’s State Tournament matchup with Lamar Christian couldn’t have come at a more inopportune time.
The Lady Raiders shot a dismal 9-of-46 from the field (6-for-27 from two-point range and 3-for-19 from the three-point arc) and 10-for-24 from the foul line in a 46-31 semifinal loss to Lamar Christian (the eventual Class 2A Div. I champion).
The loss ended the Lady Raiders season at 23-8.
Lamar opened the game with a 9-2 first quarter and, after an 11-4 second quarter, increased their lead to 20-6 at halftime.
