Locke Ward, (center) a local Realtor and co-founder of Clean Up Jackson, recently presented a program for the Rotary Club of North Jackson. Ward helped form a grass roots group that beautifies the I-55 corridor from County Line Road to downtown Jackson. Streetlights that are out in downtown Jackson pose a dilemma about who owns them.
Does Entergy own the streetlights, or do they belong to the city of Jackson?
“At some point in its history, the city decided to do its own streetlights,” said Dallas Quinn, director of public affairs for Downtown Jackson Partners.
“You look back and nobody (with the city) was changing the bulbs or ballasts. Entergy would fix their lights and the city didn’t.”

An engagement celebration was recently held at River Hills Club for Sarah Chase Dulske and Matt Edwards. The bride-elect is the daughter of Anne and Michael Dulske of Madison. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Nidia and Mike Edwards of Saucier. The couple will exchange vows on May 26 in Lake Como, Italy.
After a wedding trip, they will make their home in the Atlanta area, where the bride-elect will finish her residency in pediatrics at Emory University and Edwards is associated with Arclin as a capital project engineer.

Phase 1 of Bozeman Road is scheduled for completion the end of 2026
Bozeman road will benefit from the $2 million appropriated for Madison County in the 2026 federal budget.
The Madison County Board of Supervisors voted to apply the funding to the cost of the Bozeman Road widening project.
The first phase of the project from Bozeman Road to Mississippi Highway 463 is estimated to cost $38.6 million
“To receive $2 million dollars is huge for us,” said Gerald Steen, who represents District 3 and serves as president of the board. “That’s $2 million the county doesn’t have to pay.

A community improvement supervisor with the city of Jackson describes code enforcement as if an ER doctor.
“We’re in triage,” Robert Brunson told members of the Jackson City Council Planning and Economic Development Committee during their meeting on Feb. 5.
“We’re still trying to fix it like it’s going to go away. It’s not.”
The city of Jackson has more than 6,000 commercial and residential properties with code enforcement violations dating from October 2025 to present time, he said.

Jerry Jones, 76, died Tuesday, February 24 surrounded by family.
Jerry was born to Betsy Walton Jones and J.W. "Fid" Jones on July 23, 1949, in Jackson. He graduated from Murrah High School in 1968 then attended Ole Miss where he was a member of Ole Miss track and field, specifically excelling at the high jump. He spent many years of his youth and early adulthood working at his family's business Hale & Jones Sporting Goods.

Ashby Foote believes too many streetlights are dark in the city of Jackson.
“I’ve been wrestling with the issue of lights for the 11 years I’ve been on the council,” said Foote, who represents Ward 1, during the Feb. 24 Jackson City Council meeting.
He went on to point out that drivers on Pascagoula Street headed to I-55 are “really in the dark” until they reach the interstate, but the problem of nonfunctioning streetlights isn’t confined only to downtown.
“It’s all over the place,” he said.

The Mississippi Museum of Art’s annual ART PARTY 2026, A Floral Fête, transformed the galleries into a blooming, living canvas. Florists, garden clubs, and creative tastemakers from across the state designed floral installations inspired by artworks in the museum’s collection, bringing new life to the art and creative vitality to the season.
The night included an auction, raffle, food and drinks
ART PARTY is the museum’s only annual benefit, providing funds for the exhibitions, public programs, and educational initiatives.

“Let’s call this area of Jackson what it is. It’s a bubble,” said Daniel Phyfer, vice president of business development at Defining Wellness, a mental health and addiction treatment center near Jackson. And inside that bubble, he said, many teens feel they are performing.

After 94 years in this world, John Marlin Murphy Sr. passed on February 15, 2026, at his home in Flora, to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devout Catholic, dedicated to God, and a hardworking man committed to his family. He was a member of St. Richard's Catholic Church in Jackson. In his final weeks he was surrounded by his loving family. John was born to Joseph Patrick Murphy Sr. and Louise Stubblefield Murphy in Yazoo City on January 11, 1932.
