We Will Go’s “We Love Jackson” Luncheon was held recently at the Country Club of Jackson. The luncheon is the only fundraising event for the nonprofit. Coach Cliff Ellis was the guest speaker and several baskets were auctioned including a “We Love Jackson” basket.
Some of the efforts of We Will Go include distributing groceries to low-income families, afterschool care with a focus on literacy, and providing all day summer learning for students in need.

This year’s Breakthrough T1D’s (formerly JDRF) Hope Gala is planned for February 21 at the Westin in downtown Jackson. The eventing starts at 6 p.m. with cocktails, a reception and silent auction. The dinner, live auction and Fund a Cure follows at 7:15 p.m. with the After-Party at 9:15 p.m. Proceeds from the night funds a research to cure Type 1 diabetes. Steering committee members include Elizabeth Hutchins, Graham Fairley, Ashley Craig, Mary Zimmerman, Madeleine Nichols, Lynn Russell, Anna Kate Stanford and Ashley Jackson.

Mayor John Horhn
On the job since July 1, Jackson Mayor John Horhn has a wide range of priorities that include efforts to right size the city budget, work with the Legislature to create a Metro Jackson Water Authority, a focus on blight elimination and attention on infrastructure improvements.
“The immediate thing I addressed was getting a police chief selected,” said Horhn, who served as a senator in the Legislature from 1993 until 2025.

Hal & Mal’s is part of the entertainment district in downtown Jackson
Designating the downtown blocks that include two of Jackson’s popular restaurants and bars as an entertainment district was a long time coming, said the owner of one of the businesses.
“It’s a chapter that dates back to the plans for Old Capitol Green,” said Joseph Stodghill, owner of Martin’s Downtown and Martin’s at Livingston.
The Old Capitol Green project, which promised to redevelop 14 square blocks bordered by State, Jefferson, Commerce and Pearl streets, never came to fruition after being announced in 2006.

Jennifer Lobos and Charlton Ward, both of Jackson, were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon, January 17 in a small ceremony at The Red Barn in Northeast Jackson, surrounded by family and close friends. Dr. Andy Johnson, uncle of the bridegroom, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Jeannette Marisol Perez Oliveros and the late Luis Alberto Lobos Bahamondes of Curicó, Chile’.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ward of Jackson and more recently, Columbus.

A recent study, published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, found physician availability had a protective role on cardiovascular disease outcomes, and even small increases in the number of primary care physicians in an area could produce a substantial improvement in chronic heart disease and survival rates.

As part of the project Bozeman Road between Gluckstadt and Sharpe roads has been closed to replace a box culvert. The road closed January 12 and is expected to reopen February 13.
The first phase of the project to widen Bozeman Road from Mississippi Highway 463 to Reunion Parkway is about halfway complete.
About a year’s worth of construction remains before the first phase is done and that segment offers a smooth, four-lane roadway, said Tim Bryan, Madison County engineer.
Two lanes are being added to Bozeman Road while the existing two lanes of traffic are kept open for drivers, Bryan said.
New lanes are being added on both the east and west sides of the existing lanes, with the location depending upon the right-of-way that was acquired.

Top priorities in for the mayor of Gluckstadt this year include road projects to improve traffic flow, progress on the city’s first park and support for the new businesses.
“We are continuing our efforts to do something to alleviate traffic congestion,” said Walter C. Morrison IV, who was appointed as the first mayor of Gluckstadt after incorporation June 6, 2021, and elected last year when the city held its first municipal election.
