The executive director of the Jackson-Hinds Library System anticipates no cutbacks in service or staff, despite both the city of Jackson and Hinds County reducing their allocations for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Hinds County Board of Supervisors reduced the funding it provides for the library system budget by $125,395 and the Jackson City Council did the same by $37,630.

The Manchester Academy Mavericks improved to 6-5 on the season after posting a 60-17 blowout win over Indianola Academy last week.
The Lady Mavericks also picked up a 59-28 victory and improved to 6-9 for the year.
Alley Ables led the Lady Mavs with 17 points followed in double figures by Angel Rae Carpenter with 15 and Ellie Carpenter with 13.
Avery Austin chipped in with eight, Morgan Foster added four and Molly McBride rounded out the scoring with two.

A Lady Raider Brynn Blackstock hit a major milestone last week against Porter’s Chapel when she scored her 2,000th career point while also helping lead the Lady Raiders to a 75-14 victory.
Leta Greco led the way, scoring a game-high 20 points, followed by Blackstock with 19, and Emma Middleton with 12.
Addy Cader and Sydnie Davis had eight apiece, Maci Lowery had six, and Ava Grace Meeks chipped in with two.
The Lady Raiders also defeated Discovery last week 63-10.
Greco and Lowery notched double figures with 15 and 13 points respectively.
