Amari Southern races past Jacorion Taylor.
It’s been six seasons since the Yazoo County Panthers found themselves on the winning side of the ledger in a basketball game against rival the Yazoo City Indians.
This past Friday night, the Panthers snapped the Indians’ 12-game winning streak with a thrilling 57-55 win that, in traditional City-County fashion, went down to the wire.
Yazoo County stormed out of the gate and outscored Yazoo City 18-10 in the first quarter.
The Indians bounced back with a 17-13 second quarter and the Panthers took a slim 31-27 lead into the intermission.

My grandmother lived on Cloverleaf Circle in my early years. Her home was located just a few blocks west of Bailey Avenue, just off Palmyra Street. Homes on her street were wood- framed, simply- built houses of no more than 1,000 square feet.
My family would go for an obligatory visit each Sunday, following lunch at Morrison’s cafeteria in the old Milner Building on South Lamar Street. My brother and I quickly became bored with the small talk and heavy cigarette smoke from the adults in the tiny living room and would retreat to her backyard.

Downtown Jackson Partners would like the city of Jackson to hire a consulting firm that offers advice about using federal dollars and other funding so that people living on the street can easily move into housing for a year.
Tenants and property owners who live and work in downtown Jackson cite the unsheltered population as a top issue, said Liz Brister, president of Downtown Jackson Partners.
“The unhoused in downtown are very visible,” she said. “If you’re in downtown to work or live it’s a challenge because you don’t like seeing your fellow human beings living on the street.”

November, 2025—Fall is here; the days have grown shorter, the air crispier. Dawn is a golden brush stroke against a slate sky and as I let Lettie Lou outside to do her early morning business, I notice that except for a few twitchy leaves shimmering in the wind the trees are almost bare.
Thanksgivings just around the bend.
Doggie heading toward a clump of backyard bushes, coffee cup in hand, I sink into my recliner and reach for pen and paper, so I can send a Thanksgiving invite to family and a few friends.
I’m Tommy the Turkey, and I’m flappin’ frayed wings,

This will not be a surprise to most, but men and women do not think, process, or plan alike. I have been married for almost 30 years, and I still think my husband might be from another planet and occasionally he insists that I speak a foreign language. Often times, what is crystal clear to me could not be more confusing to him. And, I do not think it is just us. I recall a very popular book entitled “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” so I know that my husband is not the only one that gets a glazed look over his face when I am trying to explain something.

Susan Marquez shares her experience of judging the annual parade, complete with the sights and sounds of the celebration.
When I got the call asking if I would be a “celebrity judge” for the Madison Christmas parade, I was both flattered and confused. Me? A celebrity? Hardly.
